Questions About
Orthodontic Treatment

What Orthodontic Treatment Involves
To achieve the desired results, the patient must follow the instructions given by the orthodontist about wearing appliances and by practicing good dental hygiene. With braces, many foods you would ordinarily be able to eat are off limits. Such as: bubble gum, chewing ice, chewy foods and any type of chip ending in —ito (dorito, frito, cheeto, etc..)
Custome made braces, retainers and corrective appliances will be designed to correct the problem being treated. All appliances have a purpose using gentle pressure to move the teeth and jaw into proper positioning.

Treatment Time-Frame
Treatment time depends on your individual case. Your cooperation in keeping appointments, proper hygiene and care of braces may allow us to finish your orthodontic treatment early. In general patients wear braces from one to three years.
Patients who brush and floss regulary, avoid off-limit foods and wear their rubber bands or head gear and keep their schedule appoinments as prescribed usually complete their treatments on time with the desired results.
After braces are removed, most patients wear a retainer for various amounts of time to keep teeth in their new positions. The orthodontist will determine the duration in which the retainer needs to be worn. Patients remain under the orthodontist's supervision during the retention phase to ensure teeth remain properly aligned.
